Planning & Zoning Commission

A Planning and Zoning Commission was established at the time the Jerome Zoning Ordinance was adopted to help formulate and administer lawful plans adopted by the Town Council relating to the present and future growth and development of the Town. The Commission consists of five members appointed by the Town Council, each of whom must reside in Jerome. The commissioners serve three-year terms. 

Regular Commission meetings are held on the first Wednesday of every month, beginning at 7 p.m. Meeting agendas and minutes can be viewed by following the links at the left.

UPCOMING PUBLIC HEARINGS:

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Planning and Zoning Commission of Jerome will hold a PUBLIC HEARING, on a proposed amendment to the Jerome Zoning Ordinance.

Article II, Section 201 “Definitions,” Article V Section 506 “R-2 Zone, Multiple Family Residential,” and Article V Section 507 “C-1 Zone, General Commercial” of the Jerome Zoning Ordinance.  

THE CHANGES WILL HAVE THE EFFECT OF LIMITING PERMITTED USES IN THE R-2 ZONE TO SINGLE AND TWO-FAMILY RESIDENTIAL USE AND CHANGING THE CONDITIONAL USES TO BE IDENTICAL TO THOSE IN THE R1-5 ZONE. THE C-1 ZONE WILL BE AMENDED TO ALLOW “THREE-FAMILY,” “MULTI-FAMILY,” “APARTMENT HOUSES,” “HOSPITALS,” “NURSING HOMES AND CONVALESCENT HOMES” AND “BOARDING OR ROOMING HOUSES” AS CONDITIONAL USES. 

Any interested person or authorized agent may appear and be heard at the public hearing on Wednesday June 5, 2019 at 7:00 pm in Council Chambers at Jerome Town Hall, 600 Clark St., Jerome, AZ. A draft of the proposed ordinance change is posted for review on the Town of Jerome’s website,https://www.jerome.az.gov/planning-and-zoning-commission and at Jerome Town Hall, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Mon-Thurs. Written comments may be sent to the Town of Jerome, Planning & Zoning Department, PO Box 335, Jerome, AZ 86331, submitted by email to c.page@jerome.az.gov, or submitted at the hearing.

Article III, Section 301.D.3 “Amendments or Zone Changes, Council Action”.

THE CHANGE WILL PROVIDE THAT, IF THE COUNCIL’S RECOMMENDATION IS TO OVERRULE THE RECOMMENDATION OF THE PLANNING & ZONING COMMISSION, SUCH DECISION SHALL REQUIRE THE VOTE OF A MAJORITY OF THE NUMBER OF MEMBERS OF THE COUNCIL QUALIFIED TO VOTE ON THE MATTER. THE CHANGE WILL HAVE THE EFFECT OF REMOVING A PROVISION THAT REQUIRES THE VOTE OF THREE-FOURTHS OF THE MEMBERS VOTING.
